The Giboney Foundation is a non-profit organization, founded in April 2020, with the mission of providing resources to under-served communities. Mary Giboney (1925-2020) stressed the importance of education and family. In her honor, the Mary Giboney Memorial Scholarship has been created to provide support for students of minority backgrounds, pursuing an education at accredited two or four-year universities.


The 2021-2022 Mary Giboney Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Georgia high school senior, pursuing studies in STEM-based fields, who exemplifies the values of Mary Giboney. The scholarship will be $5000 in value ($2,500/semester). The recipient of the 2021-2022 Mary Giboney Memorial Scholarship will be announced during the tournament luncheon.


The proceeds from this event will help fund the next set of scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year.



The Event

The Mary Giboney Scholarship Golf Shootout will be held May 16, 2021 at Bear's Best - Atlanta. Golf registration & check-in will begin at 7:30am, with a shotgun tee time of 830am. The format will be a 4-person scramble event - everyone takes a shot, and the team plays from the best location for the next shot, with a standard and forward tee on each hole.


Lunch, with a presentation from The Giboney Foundation leaders will be provided after golf.  The $10,000 Putting Challenge and the $1,000,000 Shootout will follow lunch.

Special Events

Throughout the event, there will be challenges and opportunities for prizes.

Closest to the Pin

On a selected par-3, each golfer's tee shot will be measured for distance from the hole. The winner of the challenge will receive a free round for two golfers at Bear's Best Atlanta


Long Drive Competition

On a selected par-5, golfers will have the opportunity to compete for the longest drive of the day (the ball must be in the fairway of the specified hole to qualify). The winner will receive a free round for two golfers at Bear's Best Atlanta


Hole-in-One Awards

Every par-3 hole will have the opportunity for a hole-in-one award. The prizes will range from two (2) round-trip airline tickets (within continental USA), flat-screen TV, or a set of Callaway Irons.  Hole #11 will offer a special, $10,000 cash prize* fo a hole-in-one (no mulligans can be applied to any par-3 award holes)


$10,000 Putting Award

The winning team of the tournament will select a single golfer to attempt a 60-foot putt. The golfer will have one attempt to hole the putt for a $10,000 cash prize*!


$1,000,000 Shootout

Each golfer will be given a raffle ticket during registration (additional tickets may be purchased for $10 each).  At the end of the lunch, a ticket will be chosen and the winning golfer will get a single attempt at a hole in one on #18, from 165 yards.  If successful, the golfer will win a $1,000,000 award**!!!


COVID-19 Precautions

While Bear's Best is following guidelines published by the state of Georgia with regard to golf operations and indoor gatherings, The Giboney Foundation will provide all participants and volunteers with a mask and hand sanitizer to assist in keeping participants safe.  Bear's Best will be paring golfers in a single golf cart. If there are participants who are uncomfortable with this approach, concessions can be mad to provide single carts in a limited manner.


*The hole in one, putting award and shoot-out prizes will be provided and are insured by by US Hole In One (USHIO). The Giboney Foundation and its affiliates are not liable for payment of awards. Unless otherwise specified, only Amateurs are eligible to win. All present and past Professionals are ineligible, and cannot compete for Prizes.

** The $1,000,000 will be paid as a 40-year Annuity, managed by USHIO. The Giboney Foundation and its affiliates are not liable for payment
